The Barbershop Harmony Society can be your partner in having a greater impact in your community
Singing has power — the power to make individuals and communities healthier and happier. Singing, however, is rapidly becoming a spectator sport. Schools and communities cannot address this crisis alone. We can become powerful partners by advocating alongside the talented sea of vocal music educators and conductors. Outreach is about working with others to promote the power of singing — singing anything — while increasing your visibility and influence within your community.
We are looking for experienced volunteers to help us review our fall grant applications. Interested parties should fill out this form. After the form is completed, you will receive further information about the process prior to September 30, 2018.
For 2018, our grant program focuses on youth outreach.
Through the Harmony Foundation’s generous annual support of the Barbershop Harmony Society, we are able to provide grant opportunities that will affect powerful community impact.
Our Youth Outreach Grant is designed to help support youth and music educator workshops, one day festivals, and multi-day camps centered around youth education and the a cappella experience.
To effectively expand the reach or our grant activities, we’ve implemented an industry-standard grant request and review process that will better help you:
- Design more visionary and higher impact outreach activities
- Become better leaders in your community by growing community partnerships and understanding community needs
- Create grant requests that have an improved chance at receiving additional local funding
Applications will be accepted September 1, 2018, for projects occurring from January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019.
Applicants must be a 501(c)3 non-profit organization - IRS Determination Letter is required in the application.
Awards will not exceed 80% of total project expenses.
Projects must have a barbershop or a cappella element in order to qualify for this grant.
The proposed project will not be accepted if the project has already been completed or will be completed before January 1, 2019, or after December 31, 2019.
All applications must be submitted online through Submittable. Mailed applications will NOT be considered.
The Barbershop Harmony Society Grants are only eligible for direct costs as a result of the project. Overhead costs such as administrative salaries will not be considered for Youth Outreach Grants. This does not include artistic costs such as clinician fees, honorariums, licensing fees, and/or teaching quartet costs.
Capital expenses such as equipment purchases will not be considered for funding. Equipment rentals, however, may be permissible.
Youth Protection Training is required for all funded youth event projects. Failure to complete the training prior to the event or in a previously awarded funding year will result in ineligibility.
If awarded, the proposed project will receive 95% of the award amount one month prior to the event. The remaining 5% of the award will be remitted to the recipient after the post-project report has been received.
If the project has been awarded in a previous year, a project will be ineligible if a post-project report was not completed for that event.
Applications are then reviewed by the review team and decisions will be announced by December 1, 2018, after review comments and recommendations.
